The Brief
The client approached us looking for a traditional oak-framed structure with a modern purpose. They envisioned a garage that could accommodate both cars and a dedicated workshop area, topped with a spacious upper room for musical pursuits. Character, flexibility, and quality were key priorities.
Our Role
We were commissioned to design, manufacture, and install the complete oak frame structure. Once the frame was up, the client took on the rest of the project, coordinating their own contractors for interior fit-out, electrics, and finishing work.
Our scope included:
- Bespoke oak frame design tailored to workshop and room-over use
- Precision joinery using traditional techniques
- On-site frame assembly and installation
- Coordination with client on access and groundwork timelines
Design & Build Features
- Three-Bay Layout: One open bay functions as a carport, with the other two enclosed for workshop space—offering both security and ease of use.
- Room Over: The full-length upper floor features exposed oak beams, vaulted ceilings, and plenty of natural light—ideal for a dedicated music room or creative studio.
- Oak Detailing: Hand-finished curved braces, traditional pegged joints, and chamfered edges throughout the frame bring warmth and authenticity to the structure.
- Roof Structure: Designed to accommodate insulation and flooring for year-round use of the upstairs space.
Outcome
The result is a beautiful and highly functional oak-framed building that enhances the property both visually and practically. The client now enjoys a dedicated space for music, creativity, and car maintenance—all within a structure that will age gracefully with time.
Client Involvement
While we managed the full frame build and installation, the client chose to take on the remaining works, including cladding, roofing, insulation, and internal fit-out. This collaborative approach allowed them to add their own touches and manage costs while benefiting from a professionally built, high-quality oak frame.
